Advocacy wins: $49.4m in streetlighting savings for member councils

Two recent advocacy efforts have delivered results for the region.

Streetlighting
SECCCA's advocacy to the Electricity Distribution Price Review means member councils will collectively save $49.4 million and avoid 178,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions over the 20-year life of new streetlighting. Through the Australian Energy Regulator's process, Victoria's distribution network businesses will invest $150 million to switch more than 215,000 streetlights statewide to LED and set up a smart lighting system.

Electric vehicles
The Victorian Parliament's inquiry into electricity supply for electric vehicles made several recommendations that align with SECCCA's submission. They cover charging infrastructure, tariff reform, bidirectional charging, and access for apartment dwellers and renters.
